Making a page title for a Members page

Part 2 of 2

Index

Part 1

We have made a page title. The text we need is there and it is positioned the way we want
it. However, it is not finished. We have done all the fundamental work. Now it is time to
make things look better!

Step 4

Making things look better 1

Well, there is a couple of things we want (and need) to do now. The button we just made is
a little too small and the text on it is too dark. Since the button layer is active why not start
with that.

• On the Edit menu choose Reshape and then choose Size from the submenu

A box (frame) with eight handles appears around the button

• Pull one of the corner handles to make the button bigger
• When you are satisfied click a tool and then Use (Apply) on the pop up screen

In my opinion the button is also too high.

• Right click on the layer

Instead of the Effects command we can see the effects option listed on the top part of the pop
up menu with check marks next to the options we have used.

• Choose Bevel & Emboss
• Increase the Blur to 25 pixels
• Click OK

Now we have to adjust the position of the button. It is offset from the MEMBERS text and
should be aligned to it.

• Select the Move tool and move the button
• Switch to the text layer and move the text "Area" to the center of the button

The text is too dark so we are going to fix that now. The text layer for the "Area" should
be active.

• Double click the T symbol to bring up the Edit text box
• Change the colour to a lighter (e.g. white)
• Click OK

Now it looks a little better, huh?

Step 5

Making things look better 2

Let's make one thing more. The button and the MEMBERS text needs to be somewhat tied
together.

• Click on the button layer to make it active
• Create a new layer
• Select the Rectangular mask tool
• Click on the top left corner of the initial M in MEMBERS, hold down the left mouse button and
draw a rectangle from the the beginning of the word MEMBERS to the middle of the button

Make sure the mask don't go outside the button.

• Choose a light colour and fill the mask
• Press Ctrl + D to remove the mask

As you can see the button is half covered but not the text.

This is because the layer is above the button layer but below the text layers.

• On the Layer menu choose Arrange
• Choose Move down from the submenu

Step 6

The final adjustment

The final adjustment will be this:

• Make the new layer (Layer 3) active, right click and choose Effects
• Uncheck the Apply box for the option Shadow
• Choose Inner glow and add these settings:

Mode

Raster

Bottom radio buttons

Middle

• Click OK

Our page title is finished!
